Goodbye Managed Guest Mode!

Managed guest mode will be disabled by default on all Chromebook devices after October 1st, 2021. CPS users must always log into Chromebook devices using their CPS username and password. In the meantime, managed guest mode will remain enabled on devices by default during the start of the new school-year, but sessions will be limited to 15 minutes, which provides enough time to address any password management needs. While enabling managed guest mode on devices is NOT recommended, technology coordinators will retain the ability to turn on managed guest mode for events where guest mode is necessary (for instance, a parent night where non-CPS users need to use the device).

Secondary accounts disabled by default for students.

Due to security and usability implications, secondary accounts are disabled by default for students using Chromebooks. This means that students can only access approved Google Workspace tools that are associated with the student's CPS account, and are unable to add a secondary consumer (personal) @gmail.com account to their CPS profile. Students frequently run into errors while accessing Classroom, Meet, etc. because the browser is forced to speculate which Google account should be used for access, and may attempt to use the personal account. This is often not well understood by the end user, resulting in authentication errors, perceived technical problems, and lost instructional time.
