Secondary accounts disabled by default for students.
Due to security and usability implications, secondary accounts are disabled by default for students using Chromebooks. This means that students can only access approved Google Workspace tools that are associated with the student's CPS account, and are unable to add a secondary consumer (personal) @gmail.com account to their CPS profile.
Secondary accounts often lead to user confusion while accessing CPS classroom tools. Students frequently run into errors while accessing Classroom, Meet, etc. because the browser is forced to speculate which Google account should be used for access, and may attempt to use the personal account. This is often not well understood by the end user, resulting in authentication errors, perceived technical problems, and lost instructional time.
While most district schools prefer that students cannot add additional secondary accounts to their CPS profiles, some schools may have a particular usage case for doing so, and can contact the service desk to customize these settings.
