Chrome OS 92 has been released for use in CPS.

While the option was not available last year, schools can now decide whether Chat (chat.google.com) is available for your students. Please note that Chat must be enabled/disabled for all  students at your school and cannot be set independently for given students. Please contact the service desk to request changes to this service at your school.

Managed guest mode will be disabled by default on all Chromebook devices after October 1st, 2021. CPS users must always log into Chromebook devices using their CPS username and password. In the meantime, managed guest mode will remain enabled on devices by default during the start of the new school-year, but sessions will be limited to 15 minutes, which provides enough time to address any password management needs. While enabling managed guest mode on devices is NOT recommended, technology coordinators will retain the ability to turn on managed guest mode for events where guest mode is necessary (for instance, a parent night where non-CPS users need to use the device).

Due to security and usability implications, secondary accounts are disabled by default for students using Chromebooks. This means that students can only access approved Google Workspace tools that are associated with the student's CPS account, and are unable to add a secondary consumer (personal) @gmail.com account to their CPS profile. CPS user with associated secondary @gmail.com account Secondary accounts often lead to user confusion while accessing CPS classroom tools. Students frequently run into errors while accessing Classroom, Meet, etc. because the browser is forced to speculate which Google account should be used for access, and may attempt to use the personal account. This is often not well understood by the end user, resulting in authentication errors, perceived technical problems, and lost instructional time.   CPS does not support the use of grid-view extensions in Meet. While they may provide decent functionality for a while, these third-party extensions are notorious for suddenly falling out of support and causing serious layout and functionality problems. Users currently running any grid-view extensions — especially any users experiencing unexpected behavior in Meet — are advised to remove these extensions immediately, and instead use the supported Tile Layout function of Google Meet. The long-announced end of support for Google Cloud Print is approaching. As of Jan 1st, 2021, printing via Google Cloud print will be fully deprecated, and GCP printers will no longer function. Users will also notice that the  Save to Google Drive  option from Chrome print preview will no longer be available. The use of GCP has never been supported in CPS, but some users may have installed home printers on their devices using this platform.
